GST Registration: Requirements, Process, & Expert Assistance

What is GST Registration?

GST (Goods and Services Tax) registration is mandatory for businesses in India that exceed certain revenue thresholds or engage in specific inter-state or e-commerce activities. GST registration provides businesses with a unique GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number), enabling them to legally collect and remit GST, as well as claim input tax credits.

Requirements for GST Registration

  1. Eligibility:

    • Businesses with annual turnover exceeding ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh for certain northeastern states).
    • E-commerce operators, inter-state suppliers, and those under reverse charge mechanism.
    • Casual taxable persons, non-resident taxable persons, and agents or distributors.
  2. Documents Needed:

    • PAN Card of the business or individual.
    • Proof of Business: Partnership deed, Certificate of Incorporation, or other registration documents.
    • Address Proof: Rental agreement or utility bill for business location.
    • Identity & Address Proof of Promoters/Directors: Passport, Aadhaar, Voter ID, etc.
    • Bank Account Details: Canceled cheque, passbook, or bank statement.
  3. Digital Signature: Required for online applications (for companies and LLPs).

GST Registration Process

  1. Apply Online:

    • Visit the GST portal and click on “New Registration.”
    • Complete Part A by entering basic details (like PAN, mobile number, and email) and verify with OTP.
  2. Fill Registration Form:

    • In Part B, provide detailed business information, including principal place of business, additional places, and details of partners or directors.
    • Upload required documents for verification.
  3. Verification:

    • The application is reviewed by a GST officer. If approved, a unique GSTIN is issued within 3-7 business days.
  4. Certificate Issuance:

    • Upon approval, a GST Registration Certificate is available for download on the GST portal, which contains the GSTIN and other registration details.
